The plan to restore Stradbally’s Market House has its strength in being backed by the community.
Commissioned by a local group and written by conservation architect and Ballybrittas man Richard McLoughlin, the plan will see the restoration of the landmark structure.
Cllr James Deegan is chairman of the Stradbally Market House Restoration Committee.
“There is great affection for the Market House locally and great enthusiasm to see it restored. We are lucky that such a committed group has been involved with the project and I know the community in Stradbally will be very happy with the work once it is completed,” he said.
Apart from Cllr Deegan the other members of the committee are: Maire Cushen (Secretary), Paddy Nolan (Treasurer), Tom Donoghue, Margaret Delaney, John Lynch. Mary Whelan.
The project was initiated and developed with the help of Laois County Council.
Public money will be used through grants from Laois Partnership and county council. Work gets underway soon.
