Portlaoise musician Daniel Delaney recently enjoyed great success when he came in first place in u18 drumming at the All Ireland Fleadh in Derry.
To celebrate, his family held a party for him the week after and as well as his family and friends, many of his fellow musicians come along. Also in attendance was Gerry Conway who has been one of Daniel’s mentors for many years, and Colm Phelan who is his teacher.
Daniel is no stranger to the fleadh and this win makes a three in a row for him as he also nabbed the title at u15 and u12 levels.
Daniel has been in a traditional music group in the Portlaoise CBS for many years and also reached Leinster level playing the concertina. His musical career started 10 years ago when he was encouraged by Gerry to join the comhaltas group in St Brigids in Portlaoise.
From there he joined Portarlington CCE and has been flying high ever since. Daniel was accompanied in this year’s competition by Camross Comhaltas member Joseph Keane who Daniel has known for many years.
