The James Fintan Lalor School runs at the Dunamaise Arts Centre this weekend, delivering two days of talks, debates, music, song and dance on Friday September 30, and Saturday October 1.
A weekend of drama, debates and political discussion inspired by the writings of James Fintan Lalor, the school is a fitting tribute to a significant national figure who engaged directly with the political climate of his time, fighting for land rights on behalf of the oppressed Irish farming community and the working classes.
The opening celebration takes place on Friday, featuring the Music Generation Laois Harp Ensemble who will perform. The Comhaltas Folk Orchestra will be the first item on the programme of entertainment when they play an exerpt from the Dóchas Suite.
Saturday features debates starting from 10am.
There is also an exhibition of memorabilia pertaining to James Fintan Lalor, presented in cooperation with the National Library.
