MOUNTMELLICK singer songwriter Dave Morrissey and his band have returned from their very successful four day tour in Prague, for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Dave and his band took to the stage last Friday night, playing support to Aslan in the Palác Akroplis. This was followed by a performance on Wencelas Square in Prague city centre on St Patrick’s Day where an estimated crowd of 4,500 people soaked up the energy and celebratory mood of musicians on the stage.
“It was absolutely fantastic to stand on the stage there with the full band, playing all original music, and to get the tremendous reaction we got. My faith in original music was restored.
The reaction from the crowd was just brilliant. There was a number of Irish in the crowd who really enjoyed themselves and the appreciation from the Czech people was extraordinary,” Dave said of the experience.
Dave and the Studio 65 band also played two headline gigs in Caffrey’s Irish Bar on Thursday March 15 and Saturday March 17 bringing the St Patrick’s day festivities to a close. Dave’s band consists of Frank McNally on bass, Omar Mafoud on guitar, Alan Ryan on drums, Adrian Robinson on guitar and Maria O’Regan on backing vocals.
“The place was packed, and everyone was on such a high, even after the poor result in the rugby. I was chatting with the lads from Aslan after the gig, and they had to queue to get into Caffrey’s. Overall we had an exceptional four days, the banter between ourselves, Aslan and everyone we encountered was great fun, added Dave.”
