SOCCER fans will be out in force this month and Kavanaghs in Portlaoise are well set up for the celebrations with a giant cinema screen, followed by a free live gig from Portlaoise James O’ Connor, an outdoor bar and BBQ, and all everyone is hoping for now is a bit of sunshine and dry weather.
The free gig takes place after every Irish Game, on Thursday June 14 and on Monday June 18 and weather permitting what will be one of the biggest HD screens in the country will be showing all the football live in HD quality. Euro ‘88, Italia 90 and Japan/Korea 2002 will be a relived and in this outdoor carnival atmosphere. A free Golden Goal Competition also takes place for one game every day where a punter will win five free pints of Carlsberg.
Those who know James O’ Connor know that his sets are always entertaining whether its performing his own well crafted tracks or putting a spin on popular covers. The Portlaoise native has been gigging around Ireland for a number of years now and is back to Portlaoise, performing a number of gigs in Kavanaghs.
As well as headlining gigs around the country, in the UK and in America, James has opened shows for acts including The Walls, The Waterboys – Steve Wickham, Bell X1’s – Dave Geraghty, Miss Paula Flynn, Mick Flannery and The 4 of Us. He has also performed at a number of festivals including the Helium Festival, Lissadell Fringe Festival and Electric Picnic.
