LAOIS Youth Theatre this weekend will be presenting ‘It Only Ever Happens In The Movies’. The show takes place on Saturday November 3 in the Dunamaise Arts Centre.

This is a play about, by and for teenagers. “Summer Holidays. Crap weather and me with no-one. Girls everywhere but just can’t seem to talk to them. Only good thing about summer is the 99’s. And the new blockbuster movie. Oh, I’m such a loser”. Will Derek get the girl, just like in the movies? Can his friends help? Why are the girls behaving so weird? And who is this appearing in his dreams? Come along and find out!

The show also features ‘Headlines’, a short by Stradbally Youth Theatre. A mischievous peek into their chaotic lives where time is of the essence, where they take in the high-speed world around them on the hoof. They are relentlessly bombarded with snippets of anonymous information. They witness and partake in several fleeting encounters that they haven’t time to engage with or fully explore, they are only momentarily distracted by the headlines.

The Laois Youth Theatre is co-ordinated by the Laois Arts Office and has groups in Portlaoise, Stradbally and Portarlington. Those wishing to find out more can contact the Laois Arts Office at www.laoisarts.ie and 057 86 74344.

Tickets are priced at €10 for adults and €8 for students. They are available now from the Dunamaise box office at 057 86 63355 or by visiting www.dunamaise.ie. There are two shows on the day, at 3pm and 8pm.
