HYND’S Square in Portlaoise will be awash with colour this June bank holiday Saturday as a community arts day will take place there from 10.30am to 5pm.
There will be over 40 artists exhibiting on the day and one of the square’s empty shop units will be transformed into a pop up gallery. Artists will be painting and selling their wares and painter Robert Stack will be doing portraits for people. There will also be a masterclass by a well known artist.
As well as a huge range of diverse art, there will be music all day with a number of local musicians taking part. There will also be a music workshop for children, and an art competition to keep the little ones occupied as well. For this competition, children’s drawings will be put up throughout the square.
There will also be photography on the day. The idea of the day is to bring artists together and help them to display their wares on the streets of Portlaoise. It is hoped that if day is successful to hold it again. Any landlords who want to let their own empty units for the day are welcome to do so - to find out more contact Alison Browne on 087 2617467 or check out Downtown Portlaoise on Facebook.
