Laois County Council has agreed to a taxi rank close to the Electric Picnic site in Stradbally.
The supervised rank, which has garda support, will be located beside to the Civil Defence compound in Stradbally. Sen John Whelan and Cllr Noel Tuohy had lobbied for the rank.
“This is a great initiative supported by Laois County Council and the festival organisers. It will make it far easier, convenient and safer for locals attending the Picnic, as not everyone camps out at the site, especially with the popularity of the day tickets for Sunday which are sold out.
“It should also make it handier for taxis from Portlaoise and other surrounding towns to drop off and collect fares throughout the weekend in a designated set-down area,” said Sen Whelan.
It is hoped that a rank could be used at the National Ploughing Championships.
