Wally’s story unveiled this weekend

THIS Sunday sees the much anticipated screening of Anne Marie Kelly’s documentary about Portloaise musician Wally. Wally is a well known local rapper who attempted suicide in 2009 and this documentary tells the story of how he coped and brought himself back to life, in the process enjoying musical success.

Wally is a well known local rapper who attempted suicide in 2009 and this documentary tells the story of how he coped and brought himself back to life, in the process enjoying musical success.

“I had the razor blade there just about to do it when I saw a mother and her child walking out of the school..I was looking down on them from the ridge and said, what the fxxk am I doing?”

The documentary will be screened in the Dunamaise Arts Centre at 7pm on Sunday. As well as the documentary, next weekend sees 40 young people from Mountrath take part in a training weekend called ‘Hear Me See Me’, in which they will be trained in film, radio and music to help them express how they really feel.

There will be a number of tutors over the weekend, teaching about reporting and being on radio, as well as song writing and composition, and how to make a video. All material will be shown at 6pm on Sunday.
