THE people of Rathdowney will have plenty of entertainment this Saturday night July 14, when a rock night will be held in the Ossory Showgrounds near the town, in aid of the Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

The rock night is raising funds for two Rathdowney men - Jimmy Maher and John Rooney who will be taking part in the Route 66 bike trip across America, as part of a fundraising initiative for the hospital. This is the fourth time Jimmy will be doing the route as he also travelled on the trip on 2002, 2004 and 2008.

The two men will be travelling in a convoy of 70 bikers from all over the country, called the Irish Route 66ers, and will drive nearly 2,500 kilometers during their trip. For the trip there has been training done in Rathdowney and no doubt the local bike club Lost Souls will be on hand to show thier support.

On the night there will be plenty to keep the masses happy and dancing with music provided by Outa Diesel who play from 7.30pm to 9.30pm followed by Cork rock band Revenge who start from 10.30pm and DJ Ali D who will finish the night’s festivities. There will be a full bar on the night and a BBQ available for €5. Tickets are priced at only €10 and are available now from Corcoran’s Bar or the Card Stand in Rathdowney. All are invited to come along for a great night’s music and to support this worthy cause,
