AS part of the Music While You Lunch series, there will be a free lunchtime concert on Thursday July 12 from 1.10pm to 1.50pm at St Peter’s Church (COI), Market Square, Portlaoise, featuring Stanley Monkhouse on the organ.

Stanley has had organs lessons with Andrew Seivewright at Carlisle Cathedral and Noel Rawsthorne at Liverpool Cathedral. He has been organist at churches in London, Nottingham and St Ann’s Dublin, and has given recitals in several English cathedrals.

For many years he taught anatomy at the College of Surgeons in Dublin and is now the Rector of St. Peter’s COI Church, Portlaoise.

He once won the Sawyer prize in the Associateship examination of the Royal College of Organists, and passed the Fellowship, but he thinks it’s doubtful that he would do either of things now. This is his second concert as part of this free summer concert series. Bring your lunch and eat while you listen.

There is no charge but donations are welcome, half of which go to Laois Hospice.
