DUBLIN born singer Don Baker will be performing in Bar habana this Friday night, July 13. The well known blues performer is returning to Portlaoise having performed here over 20 years ago.

Although he spent most of his life touring and performing as well as acting, Don has been off the road for the past two years, working on his new alum. The album which is entitled ‘My Songs My Friends’ is due for release later this year. On this album a number of well known Irish artists feature, including Damien Dempsey, Liam O’ Maonlai, John Spillane, Eleanor McEvoy, Finbar Furey and Sinead O’ Connor to name but a few.

Don will be doing a solo performance in Bar Habana and is hoping to tour with his band later this year to promote the album. “I mostly perform original stuff now and I am really looking forward to getting back into touring. The album took a long time to get together and I was lucky to get what I had with the musicians”.

Don told the Leinster Express that he had a number of songs completed and recorded and after listening through to them, he decided that he would scrap them all and start again. “It was hectic recording the album, I would be up til 4am at home doing arrangements and back in the studio for 10am. I threw 15 sings in the bin but I am glad I did that. You have to get it right and be happy with it, that is very important”.

Don has been playing harmonica since the age of seven. As well as this Don is also an established actor, most notably starring in ‘In The Name of the Father’. For more information visit Bar Habana on Faceboook.
