The cathaoirleach of Laois County Council literally took centre page at the Electric Picnic in Stradbally last weekend.
Announced to the thousands as the “first lady of Laois” by none other than Fat Boy Slim, Cllr Mary Sweeney was given the honour of cutting a giant cake to celebrate the Picnic’s 10th birthday.
The Fine Gael councillor said the festival has been a great boost to the county over the past decade.
“This weekend is a major event in the Laois social calendar for concert goers and families alike. The event has raised the profile of Laois and Stradbally hall in particular, with thousands descending on the area.
“It is reflective of the best that Laois has to offer as a tourism venue,” she said.
She said there is something for everybody at the Picnic.
“I would hope the Electric Picnic will continue to be a mainstay in the calendar for years to come,” said the county councillor from Ballyroan.
