Laois County Council are to distribute almost €7,000 in arts grants, next month.
The grants which range in value from €300 - €100 were approved by councillors at Monday’s meeting of Laois County Council. The money will be distributed between 34 different groups and individuals.
Over €2,000 will be distributed among 11 individals including James Farrell, Milltown, Ballylinan, Laois who received €150 for a literary project.
Aisling Conroy, 32 Manor Place, Manor Street, Dublin 7 received €300 for a visual arts project. Gemma Guihan, The Malt House, Stradbally, and Karen Hendy, Studio 4, The Arthouse, Stradbally received €200 and €250 respectively also for Visual Arts Projects.
While Lorraine Walsh, Studio One, Arthouse, Stradbally received €300 for a visual arts project with young people. Maurice Daly, 24 Radharc Alainn, Arles, will receive €200 towards a music/education project and Meave Collins, Kilnaseer, Cullohill, will receive €100 towards a music/dance project.
The 23 groups include Arles Art Group who will receive €200 towards visual arts project, The Irish Wheelchair Association have been allocated €200 for community arts and Polish School Polinka will receive €200 for a theatre project.
Other groups that will receive a grant from the council include Laois Federation ICA, The Bare Soled Fools, Knockbeg Film Society, Ratheniska Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann and Mountmellick CCE, the Killeshin Pipe Bank, Portlaoise Leisure Studies Group, Mountmellick Macra Pantomine Group, Druid Art Group, Link Centre Artist, Festival Francis de Portarlington, Portlaoise Musical Society and PCDA Arts and Heritage,
