ARTIST Cóilín Rush was recently appointed as this year’s NCAD graduate artist in the Arthouse and Library in Stradbally. Last week he gave a talk and a visual presentation detailing his work to date at a public meeting in studio 5, where he will be working for the year. The presentation proved entertaining and informative and was enthusiastically received by those in attendance.
Arts officer Muireann Ní Chonaill was there to welcome Cóilín and introduce him to the audience gathered to hear about his work. The year long residency is funded through the Percent for Art Scheme of Laois County Council.
The presentaion included work which dated back to his first attempts post leaving cert to assemble a portfolio for college. It brought the audience through his progression through contemporary oil painting, through theory and practice to graduating and exhibiting solo shows throughout Ireland and abroad.
Further to this, Cóilín detailed his return to third level to complete an MA in digital media in NCAD. This began his work in video and photography and led to residencies abroad and a practice that included multimedia, performance and writing and an interest in constructing his own camera rigs.
The talk was a pre-emptive introduction to his work in relation to a series of public workshops that he will be begining in the Arthouse in the next few weeks. These will take place on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. Those interested in participating with Cóilín Rush should contact the Arthouse at 057 86 41740.
