THE Terryglass arts festival has announced an exciting programme of day time workshops for this year’s festival which takes place from Wednesday August 15 to Sunday August 19.
Featuring artists and craftspeople of national and international renown, 66 workshops will be held over three days to provide a weekend jam packed with fun filled entertainment for all the family. From making decorative masks to delicious cupcake creations to, contemporary dance to African drumming there is something to entertain children of all ages.
Festival highlights include interactive horn and harp workshops with Mary Curran, founding member of the WhistleBlast Quartet and member of the National Concert Hall Learn and Explore team and Aisling Ennis, regular orchestra performer in the National Concert Hall. Children will get the opportunity to listen and participate in music and play chime bars, percussion, horn and the harp in this energetic and multi-instrumental musical hour!
Today fm’s Bob Conway will be on hand to teach wannabe movie makers all the tools of the trade while budding writers will explore their imagination and use the building blocks of writing in a playful way in a Children’s Writing Workshop
Circus professional Little Bigtop will share tricks of the trade including walking a tightrope and juggling while an exciting decorative mask workshop will teach young participants how to use paint, decoupage paper, jewels, netting, feathers and other trims to custom make their mask.
There’s an opportunity to learn the basis of ceramics and how to work with clay from potter Thomas Wollen, while award winning local artist Gerardine Wisdom will show how to make sculptures from rushes picked from the lake.
