The history of Abbey Leix built for the De Vesci’s is the feature of a talk by local historian Tom Cox in Portlaoise library on Tuesday, August 6 at 8pm.

The foundation stone for Abbey Leix was laid in 1773. Designed by James Wyatt, the house was built for Thomas Vesey. Redesigned by Thomas Wyatt in the latter part of the 19th century, the house remained in de Vesci hands until 1995.
