Last month saw Scoil Chríost Rí’s 6th Year students take part in mock interviews, organised by the school’s Guidance Department, along with the help of some LCVP and 5th year students.
Some 110 girls were asked to apply for one course offered to finally be interviewed by two of 60 industry experts ranging from journalists to psychologists to hairdressers.
Weeks of hard work and preparation had been put in from both the students and their guidance counsellors in the hopes of doing well, and it’s fair to say that the final minutes leading up to each interview were filled with nervous anticipation.
Each student was interviewed for approximately 10 minutes each and received honest feedback from their panel.
Thankfully the worry and stress paid off with most students being accepted into their chosen area.
The evening benefitted the girls greatly as they got an insight into the world of work, and gained vital extra information about their chosen course.
It was definitely worth the time and effort made by everyone involved.
The girls gained valuable experience, information, contacts, and skills needed for work-life.
The 6th year girls afterwards, thanked all of their interviewers for giving up their time and expertise to help them out and critique their CVs and cover letters which they received in advance of the night.
They also expressed their gratitude to their teachers and the staff for providing them with such a worthwhile opportunity.
No doubt this experience will help them over the next few years, when they apply for courses and jobs, after completing their Leaving Cert exams in the school next June.
