Portlaoise Pantomime Group will present their 30th Anniversary production “Treasure Island” in the Dunamaise Arts centre Portlaoise from January 18th to January 25th 2014 (inclusive).
As in previous years with their reputation for hugely entertaining productions of song, dance, comedy and laughter for all ages this year should be no exception.
This years tale is Treasure Island but with a little turn and twist here and there and a trip or two to exotic faraway place combined with a few surprises along the way.
Directed by Paul Laycock with Musical Director, Dale Hennessy and Choreographer Denise Donohoe and a cast of over fifty (including a junior chorus of sixteen) rehearsals are now in full swing for what promises to be a spectacular start to the new year for all panto lovers.
With a superb chorus , senior and junior dancers all playing the parts of villagers, sailors, pirates, islanders and many more, all contributing to the continuity of the actions and antics of all the main characters who will feature as follows: Jim Hawkins (John Coss) Manager of The Admiral Benbow Hostelry and the hero : Mrs Dilly Hawkins (Damien Halpin) Owner of the Admiral Benbow and Jim’s mammy: Captain Lesley Deck (Lisa Langan) A beautiful tomboy sailor and brilliant ships captain: Squire Trelawney (Christy Bannon) Village rich boy with en eye for Dilly Hawkins: Rum (Rory Chadwick) and Raisin (Paul Kenna) Jim’s two good for nothing cousins: Long John Silver (Noel Tuohy) A likeable old pirate captain: Israel Hands (John McEvoy) Long John’s bosun, a nasty piece of work: Blind Pew (PJ Mulhall) Old shipmate of Long John who needs to go to specsavers: Billy Bones (Tim Keane) An old sea dog hiding in the Admiral Benbow: Matron Bendover (Deirdre Phelan) The ship’s nurse, a formidable woman: Queen Latifah (Gillian Haslam) Benevolent head of state on Christmas Island: Odious (Joan White) Christmas Island’s very nasty witch doctor: Willing (Sarah Stapleton) and Able (Sarah Conlon) Two very game members of Captain Deck’s female crew: Princess Noelle (Hayley Dunne) Queen Latifah’s very pretty but slightly delicate young daughter:

The Pantomime runs from Saturday 18th to Sarurday 25th of January 2014 with matinees on Saturday 18th, Sunday. 19th. and Saturday 25th at 2.30pm (sharp) and nightly at 8pm in the Dunamaise Arts Centre.
