An extended version of Caroline Conway’s Cabinets of Curiosity exhibition will be opening at Mountmellick Library Gallery on July 1 at 6pm and will be on show for the month.
Caroline Conway trained at Edinburgh College of Art before moving to Ireland with her painter husband, Jock Nichol. In recent years Caroline’s connection with Laois has been reinforced as she has been awarded Per cent for Art Commissions at Emo NS, the South School, Abbeyleix, and Scoil Chriost Ri, Portlaoise. This exhibition was inspired by Cabinets of Curiosity, the precursors of modern museum, which were eccentric private collections of natural and man-made objects, often including a number of hoaxes. This is a beautiful exhibition and is well worth a visit. All welcome to come along during library opening hours.
