Laois School of Music will officially mark the school’s 10th birthday with a gala concert this Friday at 7pm in the Dunamaise Arts Centre. The school’s various orchestra and ensemble groups will be taking part, along with a group of tutors and a number of duets, trios and soloists.

LSM are inviting all past pupils of the school to join them on the night, as part of the grand finale, or perhaps as a solo guest artist. They would particularly like to hear from pupils who have gone on to study music at third level to hear of their progress. It is estimated that over 3000 pupils have passed through the Laois School of Music since it opened in September 2001, some of whom are still pupils today, which shows that music is truly a life-long learning experience.

The concert will also incorporate a slide show of good luck messages, comments and photos from present and past pupils and tutors. If anyone has any photos of their time with LSM that they’d like to share, or would like to send a short message to be displayed on the night, they can email nkelly@laoiscoco.ie.

It promises to be a great evening’s celebration of 10 years’ music-making with music from all genres – classical, folk, traditional and popular. The evening will conclude with refreshments after the concert, and of course no birthday celebration would be complete without a birthday cake, with plenty of musicians and singers at hand to give a rousing rendition of happy birthday.
