THE 22st annual Athy Bluegrass Music Festival is taking place from Friday July 13 to Sunday July 15 in the Athy GAA Centre.

Europe’s number one bluegrass band 4 Wheel Drive from Holland will be headlining the popular festival with the best of Irish in support.

4 Wheel Drive have been voted the best bluegrass band in Europe on three occasions at the European Bluegrass Fanfest and have toured the US with great success. This will be their fifth appearance at the Athy festival and are back this year by popular demand.

The Irish bands playing support are The Niall Toner Band who have been signed by Pinecastle records in the US and are hot from a sell out concert at the Eigse festival in Carlow.

Bending the Strings are a 4 piece band based in Mullingar but featuring Martin Cooney from Athy on banjo. Tennessee Hennessee are from Armagh and are a real hard driving bluegrass band. Woodbine are the local based band who have made a great name for themselves on the festival circuit in Ireland.

Clem O Brien will play a rare solo performance on Sun with a tribute to the late Doc Watson the legendary guitar player from Nth Carolina who passed away just a few weeks ago. This is a fantastic line up of top class artists and well worth a visit for anyone with a taste for great acoustic music. The festival is in a new venue this year and booking seats is essential as there are a limited number of seats left. For tickets contact 085 1656685.
