LOCAL artist Gemma Lalor will be holding an exhibition in The:Space in Laois Shopping Centre from Friday July 6. The launch takes place at 7pm and all are welcome. The exhibition is entitled ‘Magically Overactive Imagination’ as all images come from Gemma’s imagination.
Gemma told the Leinster Express that she wanted to bring something different to the town with this exhibition. “I have been to many exhibitions and have never felt satisfied for my own taste in art and have wondered did many other people feel like this. I decided to take matters into my own hands and create my own exhibition”.
Gemma’s exhibition is visually entertaining and humorous and caters for a variety of people from young to old. “I want to engage an adult’s inner child and a child’s inner imagination. My inspiration comes from dreams and ideas I had as a child and still have today, from many conversations I have with friend’s and people in general and from playing around with words”.
Gemma grew up loving art but as she got older her passion grew stronger. She completed a local course for two years and said that it wasn’t until she completed the course that she felt she came into her own artistically, stating that the course made her “more determined to be the artist I wanted to be not what society wanted”.
Gemma has been working on the exhibition for the past six months, with the idea generating from creating her own book with pictures and rhymes. Gemma is also holding a drawing class for both adults and children on Saturday July 7 at 2pm. From this she will pick an image to display alongside her own in the exhibition. All are welcome to come along. Visit www.magicallyoveractiveimagination.blogspot.com for more or check out Facebook.
