A CLONASLEE man has reached the final of the Song for Simon competition and will be performing in Athlone this weekend. The final will take place on Saturday February 2 in the Sheraton Hotel.
Tom Conroy from Clonaslee will be singing ‘My Sweet Sweet Angel’ on the night. Tom began studying classical piano in his teens, with aspirations of becoming a concert pianist. However, he soon branched out into different genres. He started composing music and writing songs at around the age of seventeen, and in 2010, decided to pursue it as a career.
It was around this time that he began to sing as well, and in 2012, he adopted the stage name Father Einstein. Tom has worked as the Resident Pianist in the Tullamore Court Hotel since 2007, and is Pianist with the Portlaoise Gospel Choir and the Tipperary Gospel Choir. He is also director of the local church choir in Clonaslee, County Laois, and works as a part-time piano teacher.
MC on the night is Midlands 103FM’s Will Faulkner and as well as hearing Tom perform, the other nine finalists will be showing their wares. Tickets are just €10 and can be purchased from the Sheraton Hotel Athlone on 090 64 51000.
