St Joseph’s Sunday Choir are busy recording their first CD, with all profits to go to Cuisle, the cancer support centre in Portlaoise.
Director and organist Audrey Whelan formed the idea after the choir sang in a broadcast at the Matt Talbot pilgrimage in Knock last summer.
“It sounded so lovely, I thought why not make a CD, and give all the profits to Cuisle,” she said.
Formed in 2007, the choir has 36 men, women and children, now busy recording hymns in the church while it is closed at night, with kind permission of PP Fr Murphy.
“The acoustics are second to none,” she said, listing How Great Thou Art and Panis Angelicus as some of the hymns.
The CD will be out in spring, and they are fundraising to pay for costs at SuperValu this Friday and Saturday, October 25 and 26.
“We ask everyone to give as generously as possible and welcome private donations too,” said Audrey. New members welcome. See notes.
