A MUSIC Generation Laois / Laois Partnership glee club is now meeting weekly every Friday evening in the Portlaoise Youth Café. Young people aged between 12 and 18 have formed a glee club, and rehearse weekly with a dance and singing tutor.

The club’s current performance pieces include Jesse J’s ‘Pricetag’, Queen’s ‘Somebody to Love’ and the Glee/Hairspray hit ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat.’

Glee club members work with renowned soprano and voice tutor Denise Brennan from Arklow, to perfect their singing techniques, and Paula Byrne, a dancer from Mountrath, who recently was awarded an MA in dance from the University of Limerick. The Portlaoise club is currently open to new
members.

Music Generation Laois / Laois Partnership also run Glee Clubs in Mountrath and Mountemellick. Both the Mountrath and Mountmellick glee clubs have been a fantastic success with local young people, and the Mountrath club will be open to new members from
September.

All three glee clubs – Portloaise, Mountrath and Mountmellick, are working towards a performance in the Dunamaise Theatre on Saturday June 8. This concert will be hosted by the glee clubs, and will also feature performers from a variety of the Music Generation Laois programmes.

Glee Membership is €2 weekly. Contact Music Generation Laois on 057 8664078 or email musicgenerationlaois@laoiscoco.ie for more information.
