Adult education in Portlaoise received a boost in September when Portlaoise College expanded into another building for further education.

This building, formerly used by Gaelscoil Phortlaoise, was built in 2007 and has six classrooms and two practical room, four offices, a staff room and a reception. The classrooms lend themselves to an atmosphere suited to further education where students can avail of modern facilities and learning resources. Also a student car park can accommodate up to 80 cars, a student gym, running track and computer facilities are available to students. Other facilities include a canteen, study room, printing, and common room.

Courses run in the new building include: beauty, health and fitness, sports coaching and leisure management, childcare, childcare supervision, pre-nursing studies and healthcare.

Portlaoise College principal Mr Noel Daly said the building is very encouraging for future students in further education. He expects an increase of students next year.
