520 employed at shopping centre

the opening of another big highstreet chain at the Laois Shopping Centre has brought to more than 500 the number of people employed a what is becoming on of the busiest shopping centres in the midlands..

Last Wednesday, November 28 Holland and Barrett opened its doors at the cent.e The chain supplies a range of health foods, organics, vitamins and mineral supplements. It also specialises in the growning market for alternative medicines such as herbal and homoeopathic remedies.

Located in a 1,286 square foot unit, the chain will create 4 new jobs, including 2 full time and 2 part time positions. The new store is the 43rd in the Republic.

Holland & Barrett was founded in the 1920s and is is now part of the NBTY Europe group which also includes GNC in the UK, DeTuinen in The Netherlands.

Commenting on the new store, Holland & Barrett’s Director of Brand and Retail Marketing, Phil Geary said: “We look forward to welcoming new customers to our latest store and hope to become the destination of choice for high quality, healthy, natural products at excellent prices.”

Harcourt Developments which owns the shopping centre aslo announced that the Irish-owned menswear fashion store, Sixth Sense will be opening in the coming weeks.

The announcement follows on from many other major brand names including Carraig Donn and Jack & Jones, which opened their doors last month.

Other chains to have set up shop in the centr are: Kash Ladies Boutique, Petworld and Scooples Ice Cream which have brought seventeen full-time and part-time jobs to

Harcourt said that the Laois Shopping Centre, now employee’s 520 people.

Among the other shops at the redeveloped centre are Tesco Penney’s, Born Clothing, Dealz, Boots, Costa Coffee
