MidlandsIreland.ie was launched as a branding initiative by the Midland Regional Authority in March 2011 with the aim of increasing awareness of what the region has to offer, a key objective of the Midland Regional Planning Guidelines.
The brand seeks to promote the Midlands region comprising the counties of Longford, Laois, Offaly and Westmeath as an ideal location in which to live, work, study, visit and engage in through the straplines of Gateway to Living, Learning, Tourism and Enterprise.
The authority claims its brand marks a “strong co-operation” between the public, private, voluntary and community sectors in the region with a broad range of initiatives delivered to date.
The MidlandsIreland.ie dedicated website, Facebook and twitter pages provide an efficient way of communicating to a global audience what happens in the region across a broad range of spectrums. Day-to-day management of the brand is undertaken by the Midland Regional Authority with the support of a cross sectoral Brand Management Committee comprising representatives from public and private backgrounds spanning the four pillars upon which the brand is built.
Since its inception, the authority says the brand has succeeded in developing a digital Tourism Guide and smart phone application under the Gateway to Tourism strapline in partnership with service providers, Fáilte Ireland and the midland Local Authority Heritage, Tourism and Arts officers. A significant achievement has been the securing and delivery of the ‘Lakeland Treasures’ application, a pilot initiative in the Midland Region in partnership with Fáilte Ireland and Waterways Ireland through their Lakelands and Inland Waterways Initiative.
The past 12 months marked the third year of the MidlandsIreland.ie Best in Business Annual Awards which seeks to acknowledge and congratulate the achievements of the regions business community. These awards are the result of collaboration between the Chambers in the four counties and the overarching Midlands Gateway Chamber. The awards take place in June of each year.
MidlandsIreland.ie supports the creative industries of the midlands through projects such as the production of an annual MidlandsIreland.ie Enterprise Fact File and working in partnership with the IDA, Enterprise Ireland, County Enterprise Boards and AIT on joint collaborations focused on promoting the region as a place to set up and do business in as well as the supports available for research, development and innovation. 2013 saw MidlandsIreland.ie exhibit at the National Ploughing Championships and the Laois Open for Business Event.
