Over €170,000 will be spent on heating and insulation upgrades to the The Sue Ryder day care centre and residential homes in Ballyroan.
The project is part of an initiative by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), who will provide a grant of €87,000.
According to the SEAI report, the foundation aims ‘to retrofit 16 domestic homes and the main day care centre in Ballyroan with air source heat pump units and LPG backup along with optimum heating controls, window replacement and insulation measures.’
Local councillor Mary Sweeney, said that the foundation is putting ‘a matching amount’ towards the project.
“The project is for the upgrade of insulation and heating in the residential accommodation for the elderly in Ballyroan.
“The SEAI are providing a grant of €87,000, and the Sue Ryder Foundation will meet that with a matching amount towards the project,” she told the Leinster Express.
Cllr Sweeney said that she welcomed the project, as the buildings are in need of upgrading.
“Sue Ryder is 36 years in existence in Ballyroan. The buildings are old, so they are in need of upgrading.
“It’s about providing secure accommodation for the elderly in Ballyroan,” she said.
Work on the project is due to commence in the coming weeks.
