Portlaoise is set to receive a new garda superintendent as part of a personnel reshuffle within the force.
Superintendent Joe Prendergast has been relocated from Kildare to the Portlaoise district and is due to start locally today (Tuesday, June 10). He is the third superintendent for the area in as many years, filling the role recently vacated by Supt Yvonne Lundon, who took over in August 2012 from Supt Philip Lyons.
Supt Prendergast’s move is part of a reshuffle overseen by acting commissioner Noirin O’Sullivan which finds 16 senior gardaí being transferred around the State.
