Beatle sketch in Durrow sale
A SKETCH by Beatles member John Lennon is amomg the rarities that will go on sale next week in Sheppards of Durrow.
The famous auction house host its Outstanding Interiors and Exteriors sale on Tuesday, April 27 in its Durrow auction rooms, showcasing 1,022 “rare and exceptional works, valued in excess of n1,600,000”.
Leading the sale are two important manuscript Dublin guest books. These were long believed by researchers to have been lost. One, covering the period 1880-1899, relates to the original Burlington Hotel while the other, the guest book of Jammet’s restaurant ranges from 1945-1967. Both are populated throughout by famous personalities including Charles Stuart Parnell, Maud Gonne, John E. Redmond, Laurel and Hardy, Bing Crosby and John Lennon.
Also among the pieces on auction are a pair of George III period console tables; an exceptional Irish George III period gilt framed overmantle; a distressed but rare eighteenth-century period Chippendale gilt framed overmantle mirror.
