The County Manager has said he will meet objectors to the Ratheniska electricity substation after Eirgrid lodged an application with An Bord Pleanala.

At this week’s meeting of Laois County Coucil, Cllr James Daly said all the councillors had received letters from Eirgrid recently.

He reminded the manager Mr Peter Carey, of his committment to meet with the Ratheniska, Timahoe, and Spink Action Gorup if there any further developments.

He said he was shocked when he seen the details of Eirgrid’s application published in the papers recently.

“It was shocking, much more enormous and huge than I was expecting. There is huge concern and objection to it in the Timahoe area.

“The County Manager did state before that he would meeting with the group, and I’m asking him now if he will update the council on the position and will be meet with the substation action committee.”

Cllr Padraig Fleming said he agreed with Cllr Daly and awaited the Managers response.

The manager, Peter Carey, said it was now confirmed that Eirgrid’s application was a matter for An Bord Pleanala.

“When the application was formally made, I wrote to the group to inform them that it was available to inspect in the planning offices, and that assistance would be available to them if they wanted it, when viewing the plans.

“I will meet with them if they wish, but it is a matter for An Bord Pleanala,” he concluded.
