Giveaway weekend

The Leinster Express is proud team up once again with the Downtown Portlaoise traders group to offer a great four day giveaway of discounts and offers to local shoppers this month.

To celebrate our first Tuesday edition next week the Leinster Express will carry two pages of coupons of a range of shops in the Portlaoise Downtown group. Shoppers will be able to uses the discoutns from Thursday, September 26 to Saturday, September 29 inclusive.

Allison Browne, of Browne Jewellers, is the pro of Downtown Portlaoise. She said the offers from up to 30 traders are great value for money offering discounts on everything from clothes, food, jewellers, photography to opticians and hair styling/cuts.

All shops are planning something differant types of discounts. Allsion She said the weekend would promote shopping local and will demonstrate that people don’t have to leave Portlaoise to find value and choice.

The PRO said that the initiative had come about as a result a similar offer run with the Leinster Express during the summer which proved a big hit with shopers and traders.

The Giveaway weekend is just the first of a number of initiativs planned by the traders who have been revitalised under the Downtown banner. Two Christmas markets are planned and a traders also hope to team up with the Leinster Express in a big shop local Christmas campaign.

“People are coming into the shop now and saying they prefer to shop at home,” he said.

Ms Brown urged shoppers to take advantage of the half hour free parking in Portlaoise over the four day giveaway.

“We want to try to encourage our customers to visit downtown Portlaoise to experience what we have to offer whether they are going for a cup of coffee for dinner or out for a day’s shopping. We have it all and we know that Downtown’s voucher scheme offers excellant value,” he told the Leinster Express.

Mr Shaw encouraged people to shop local not just for the discount but also to help the local economy.

“By shopping local they are helping employment, putting money into the local economy. What they get from local is the personal service and you want get that anywhere else,” he said.

He said the Portlaoise Downtown are planning a substantial promotions for local shoppers in the months running up to Christmas.
