Glanbia Agribusiness has announced an agreement to enter into an exclusive milling supply contract with US based Sturm Foods, for the McCann’s Irish Oatmeal brand.

This contract will see Glanbia become the exclusive Irish partner to the McCann’s brand.

Sturm Foods is a leading US dry-grocery company and is part of the Treehouse Foods Corporation. The McCann’s Irish Oatmeal brand is positioned at the premium end of the US Oatmeal market and has been sold in the US for over 150 years.

The new agreement means that Glanbia will expand its existing milling facilities and will build a stand-alone, food-grade oats mill on the site of the existing agri mill in Portlaoise. It is envisaged that on completion the new mill will employ seven skilled staff, which will bring to 17 the total employees in the Portlaoise site.

Announcing the agreement, Colm Eustace, CEO Glanbia Agribusiness, said:

“Glanbia Agribusiness is committed to continuously growing our milling business and adding additional value to Irish grain. This exciting new partnership with Sturm Foods represents a significant further expansion into the food chain, integrating our high quality oats supply with this world class food brand. This agreement is an endorsement of our premium quality offering and represents an exciting opportunity for both Glanbia and our oats growers. With our specialist agronomists and R&D team, we look forward to working closely with our growers to achieve the quality and innovation required to meet discerning consumer needs.

Consequently we will be investing in the development of a new, state-of-the-art oats mill adjacent to our existing mill in Portlaoise.

Construction will commence next year and this new mill will be built to *FDA standard and will be *BRC food quality assured, with a unique backward integration system for oats growing and drying.

A range of improvements have also been completed at our grain operations in Ballytore, Co. Kildare. This investment is a further commitment to this important sector and builds on a significant investment Glanbia Agribusiness has made in both Portlaoise and Clonroche, Co. Wexford Mills in recent years.”
