Cllr James Daly has welcomed the long awaited extension to the Carlow Northern Relief Road in Graiguecullen.
The Fine Gael candidate said it had been confirmed at a recent Council meeting of the Luggacurren Electoral Area that the road extension from the Castlecomer road roundabout to the Numbers Road in Graiguecullen would proceed this summer.
Cllr Daly explained that this project had passed the public consultation and planning stage with the cooperation of local landowners and residents.
“We have ensured that the funding is now in place for this new section of road I would hope the work would commence as soon as possible in early summer. We also have a committment from the Council that this funding is ringfenced so it cannot be moved or spent anywhere else.
“It’s something that I have been campainging for over recent years and is badly wanted to alleviate traffic congestion in Graiguecullen”. Once completed it will free up the flow of traffic and will be of great benefit to residents of Graiguecullen and the greater Carlow area,” said the Timahoe-based candidate for the new Graigue/Portarlington area.
The new road will continue from the existing Castlecomer road roundabout on the R430 to a new roundabout on the Numbers Road and when completed will form part of the future Carlow Ring Road . The new section will have a single carriageway cross-section. The Numbers Road will be upgraded also with the widening of the existing road. New wider foothpaths will be provided on the numbers road.
