Laois house prices drop

House prices in Laois have continued to drop bringing the county near to the bottom of the table, with the average house price of €86,000 a whopping 65 percent below peak levels.

The latest figures from reveal that for the last quarter of 2013, prices in Laois were 16 percent lower than a year previously, compared to a fall of 13 percent a year ago. A one bed apartment in the county is circa €32,000 (down 16.9 percent), a two bed terrace is €42,000 (-17.2%), a three bed semi-detached is €58,000 (-15.9%), a four bed bungalow is €121,000 (-12.3%), and a five bed detached is priced at €152,000 (-12.5%).

Only Roscommon and Leitrim reported lower prices, with a three-bed semi costing around €53/54,000 and a five bed detached costing €121/122,000.

There was a marked difference between Laois and the neighbouring county of Offaly, with a one bed apartment in Offaly priced at €48,000, while the asking price for a five bed detached house around €226,000.

Asking prices in counties Meath, Kildare and Wicklow changed by less than 1 percent over the course of 2013, as prices in bordering county Dublin rose by 11 percent. The average national asking price is now €171,000, up 0.2 percent from the start of 2013.
