The Abbeyleix/Portlaoise candidate welcomed the acquisition of First Ireland Spirits Company Limited by European Drinks Group, Quintessential Brands.

With 50 people employed, he said First Ireland has been a good source of employment since 1993. Over this time they have produced large volumes of liqueurs with a global market. “As a local Councillor I hope that this will be an opportunity for further investment in the Abbeyleix plant which has a proven track record and will add significantly to the european group.

“The new group will have greater marketing and research resources and this should enable future developments to take place in Abbeyleix to increase the output and employment in the town,” he said.
