St Mary’s NS Clonaghadoo celebrated the award of their third green flag recently on a day when one pupil’s flawless attendance record was also recognised.
The school received its third green flag for water conservation. Work on this has involved installing happy hippo containers in the toilet cisterns to cut down on water usage when flushing, checking that taps are never left running, and also making sure there are no leaks.
Parents are regularily informed of activities in school through newsletters. They are also given tips for ways to save water at home.
As well as working on water conservation, the work done for 1st and 2nd green flags is constantly maintained.
This involves recycling, reducing waste going to landfill, having a litter picking rota, and conserving energy where possible. The current green team is comprised of 6th class pupils.
Meanwhile, pupil James Griffin was also presented an award for his excellent attendence.
James has had 100%attendance since Junior Infants and this was celebrated as the school finished up for the summer holidays last week.
