PORTLAOISE woman Mona Jakobson will have a chance at becoming the Face of Ireland, this weekend when she takes part in the finals of the Europcar Face of Ireland competition.
Mona ,along with 23 other finalists from around the country, will take to the stage at the Red Cow Hotel this Saturday evenining with high the hopes of being able to represent Ireland in New York next March by launching the St Patrick’s Day parade there. Mona was picked from over 32,000 entrants and had to complete six heats to get to the final. “The competition is all about charity and what you’ve been involved in”. Mona’s chosen charity is Cancer Research. This year all proceeds from ticket sales from the final will go towards Suicide Awareness. Mona is a second year student in Carlow IT studying Bachelor of Science in Construction in Architectural Technology. She said that she is “very nervous about the final”, but she will have plenty of home support as there is a good crowd travelling from Portlaoise to cheer her on. The event will be shown live on Sky channel 919 this Saturday.
