This year’s Laois Rose hopefuls will get the taste of what its like to be the Rose of Tralee for a day when they undertake a bus tour of the county this Saturday.

A total of 17 young ladies will take to the stage in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel in the hope of becoming the next Laois Rose.

But they will have big shoes to fill, as outgoing Rose, Sinead Fennell, has been described as “phenomenal” by Sharon Preston, Laois Rose co-ordinator.

This Saturday, the Roses will begin their day with the photo shoot for the Leinster Express before boarding the bus for their whistle stop tour of the county.

They will visit Bankz Hair and Beauty, who provide hair and make up for the Laois Rose selection night, each year. They will continue on to Portarlington Pharmacy, before heading to the Maldron Hotel for lunch. Following lunch, the bus will take the girls to visit the patients in Mountmellick Hospital.

Sinead passes on her sash and perpetual crown to the newly crowned Rose in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel on Sunday, March 18.

Tickets are selling fast for this eagerly anticipated event, one of the first selection nights in the Rose of Tralee calendar.

The day of selection begins with hair appointments for all the ladies with beauty and hair styling. After the make up there will be interviews, and stage rehersals, before they are allowed home to relax and prepare for the live stage interviews later that night.

Once again, compere Brendan Hennessy will be on hand to make the girls feel at home on stage.

For the first time, there will also be a banner competition at the selection night, with a prize for the best one.

Once again, Sharon is grateful to all the sponsors and particularly Laois Civil Defence for escorting the ladies on their bus tour.
