the search is on for a lady with that ‘je ne sais quois’ appeal, to be this year’s queen of the Festival Francais de Portarlington.
The committee are looking for Portarlington girls aged between 18 and 27 years, who are up for a bit of craic, and would be proud to represent the festival at the various competitions and sporting events held during the festival, which runs from July 13 to July 15 this year.
The Festival Queen will have the option of going on to enter next year’s Laois Rose contest, but this is not compulsary, stresses organiser Arlene Foy.
“We found that entrants were down last year, and we think that was because the winner had to go on the the Laois Rose contest, so this year it is only an option, and we are putting the craic back into it,” she explained.
Criteria for entering are the same as for the Rose of Tralee contest. Final judging including a chat on stage takes place in The Barrow Lodge on Friday, June 29, and all local businesses and communities are encouraged to come and support the girls while enjoying a night of music and fun.
Anyone wishing to enter can contact Arlene at 0862366888 or call to The Barrow Lodge on or before June 21. The festival launch is in O’Deas Bar and Bistro this Friday June 22 at 9pm, with food and music, all welcome.
“A great programme of events is organised for this year, and we are looking forward to everyones support again,” said Arlene.
