Ballyfin on top in high-scoring game

A high scoring encounter was witnessed by all when Ballyfin overcame the stern challenge of Rosenallis on Friday last to book their place in the next round.

A high scoring encounter was witnessed by all when Ballyfin overcame the stern challenge of Rosenallis on Friday last to book their place in the next round.

Ballyfin started strongly to tack on two early points from JJ McHugh and Chris Dunne, before Rosenallis went a step further to land 1-2 without reply. John Lennon was on hand to claim a great individual goal, with Ricky Quinlan following up with a brace of points to to give Rosenallis a three point lead.

Ballyfin went on to claim the next three points - two of which came from the hurl of full-forward, James Finn, with Sean Lowry completing the three to level the game with nineteen minutes played.

Similar to before, Rosenallis replied with 1-2 in quick succession to steal the lead. John Lennon and Brian Fitzpatrick both raised the white flag, before Declan Walsh grabbed Rosenallis’ second goal of the half.

Ballyfin closed out the half strongly to cut the deficit to two points at the interval, thanks to scores from JJ McHugh and brilliant sideline from Dermot McGill, with the half time score reading 2-4 to 0-8.

Ballyfin restarted the half with a bang, with George Lanham firing 1-1 in three minutes to fire them into a two point lead. Rosenallis replied in typical fashion to level the game with Declan Walsh and Simon Smith picking up points.

Two points from JJ McHugh and a point from Gareth Dunphy pushed Ballyfin into the lead yet again. The game took an unpredicted swing in Rosenallis’ favour as they fired 1-4 without reply. John Lennon grabbed his second goal of the day, Ronan Murray fired two points, while Declan Walsh and Paddy Keating picked up singles.

Ballyfin upped the tempo an dominated the closing stages to land 1-4, but time caught up with their comeback as they fell just two points short.
