Colt’s second half performance proved enough as they coasted by the challenge of Rathdowney-Errill with six points to spare in O’Moore Park on Sunday last.
The game opened with three points in the opening five minutes with Tadhg Dowling and Eoin Bourke raising the white flag for Rathdowney, while Chris Murray opened the Colt account.
Colt went on to raise the green flag four minutes later with Dan Dalton’s blistering shot creeping over the line, despite the best efforts of Niall Delaney in the Rathdowney goal. Henry Keyes followed up from the resulting puck-out to give Colt a three point advantage.
Rathdowney-Errill hit back with six successive points - three from Tadhg Dowling, two from Brian Bowe and a single from Eoin Bourke to catapult them into a three point lead.
Colt closed out the half strongly with five points in the final ten minutes of the half. Chris Murray, Henry Keyes, Shane Mullins, Colin Ryan and Dan Dalton all chipped in with points to leave the half time score at 1-7 to 0-9 in favour of Colt.
The second half proved to be much less of a contest as Colt showed why they’re favourites for Championship 2013. It was a bleak second half for Rathdowney as they only managed to add two points to the scoreboard in the full thirty minutes.
Colt added six points in the ten minutes following the restart, three of which came from Chris Murray, with Brian McDermott, Henry Keyes and Gearoid Parkinson making up the difference.
Colt continued to heap pressure on Rathdowney and increased their lead by four thanks to Padraig Dunne (2), Colm Kavanagh and Dan Dalton as they ran out comfortable victors with six points to spare.
