The Laois U-16s did the exact opposite of their U-14 counterparts as they came storming back to overtake the Lily Whites in the second half of their Leinster second round match in Allenwood.

Kildare started strongly with quick scores from Ellen Dowling and Rebecca Houlihane but Laois responded with goals from Ann Fitzgibbons and Megan Dunne, while Shauna Redmond and Ciara Burke chipped in with points.

Despite their efforts however Kildare finished in complete control and led by 3-10 to 2-5 at the break.

Whatever was said to the Laois girls during the interval had the desired effect as they emerged a transformed team. With Ciara Burke orchestrating the proceedings at midfield and Caoimhe Simms, Fitzgibbon, Redmond and Dunne in top form up front Laois simply ran riot.

By the 18th minute The O’Moores had chalked another 2-6 to lead by four points. At the back all six backs defended well and restricted Kildare lust three points in the half.
