Laois 5-12

Roscommon 0-4

Laois put in a great performance and blew away their opposition winning by 5-12 to Roscommon’s 0-4. Goalie Aoife McEvoy was alert at all times and made some lovely saves throughout the game. All of the backs defended vigorously, led by the ever dependable duo of Síle Burke and Casey Conroy, who seemed to clear every dangerous ball possible.

Corner backs Marie Delaney and Louise Lynch had great games as did Súin Lennon and Rebecca Treacy at wing back. Laura Marie Maher, who scored a personnal tally of 1-5, and Joyce Dunne were in full control at midfield. Wing forward Claire Fitzgerald was having a great game but had to be replaced by Grace O’Neill after 25 minutes when she was injured in a heavy clash, but not before she had scored a nice point from the wing.

Team captain Yvonne O’Neill at centre forward led the attack and scored 1-2. Kelly O’Neill also scored 1-2 from the right wing. Lorna Campion worked hard at both corner and wing forward and selflessly laid off some nice passes to set up scores for some of the other forwards.

Niamh Coss had a great game and scored 1-1 point from corner forward. Last years goalie Emma Phelan has settled in well to her new position at full forward and scored 1-1 point. Hannah O’Neill replaced her sister Grace after the break due to a blood injury and slotted in well into corner back as Louise Lynch moved forward

Also after the break, Mary Ryan replaced Emma Phelan in the full forward line and was unlucky not to get a couple of scores. Regular forward Meabh Collier was rested for the game as she had a colleges final in the following days. All of Roscommon’s four points came in the latter stages of the second half when the game was well and truly over.
