The Laois U-14 county Camogie final was played last Wednesday night in Kilcotton, and it was a rematch of the County Féile Qualifier Final, with the Féile county representatives Camross facing O’Moore’s yet again.

O’Moore’s were out to settle old scores as Camross beat them earlier in the year, denying O’Moore’s the chance to represent Laois in the Féile in July.

O’Moore’s got off to a great start and dominated the play from the throw in. In fact, the Camross forwards hardly got a touch on the ball for most of the first half. That was mostly down to the enormous pressure exerted on Camross by a stong O’Moore’s side, lead by captain Laura Peake, who although named at full forward, spent a lot of the game dominating the midfield.

Laura was well assisted in putting O’Moore’s well in front at half time by the sharp shooting of the O’Moore’s forwards, with Áine O’Neill, Erin Murray, Lisa Fitzpatrick and Laura Peake herself scoring 3-5 between them in the first half. Camross could only answer it with two points from Dawn Mortimer at wing forward.

After the break, Camross came out stronger and dominated much of the play for the first 15 minutes and with a point from Michelle Lalor and a goal from Dawn Mortimer, they seemed to be settling into their stride.

At least three certain goal chances were saved by a very vigilant Claire Abbott in goals, helped in no small way by full back Róisin Scully and Zoe Cuddy at wing back, who came back from wing back to clear the sloitar off the Camross goal line.

However O’Moore’s soon got back to scoring with a goal and a point from Erin Murray and a goal from Bronagh Keating. The game was effectively over at that point and O’Moore’s had staged their revenge by winning the County Final in style on a final scoreline of O’Moore’s 5-6 to Camross 1-3.
