A thrilling second half comeback from the girls of Paddock NS saw them claim the Girls Division 3 title over Killadooley last Friday in O’Moore Park.

A thrilling second half comeback from the girls of Paddock NS saw them claim the Girls Division 3 title over Killadooley last Friday in O’Moore Park.

Killadooley had enjoyed the better of the first half, and held a sizeable seven point lead at half time. Paddock looked to be in trouble at that stage, but they didn’t panic, and lead by the impressive Lauren Burke they chipped away at the Killadooley lead.

While there was eight points in it at the final whistle, that wasn’t a fair reflection on the game overall as Killadooley had played their part in an exciting, sporting game.

Killadooley had gotten off to a good start when Jessica Quinlan pointed in the fourth minute, and things got even better for them then in soon after as Emma Dunphy struck for the first goal of the game. Jessica Quinlan added another goal a minute later, and Paddock got then got on the scoreboard thanks to a point from Lauren Burke.

The Paddock team then needed their goalkeeper Eve Cuddy to come to the rescue just before half time when she made a superb save from Jessica Quinlan’s shot. Shona Jones finished the scoring for the half with a point from a free, and Killadooley lead 2-2 to 0-1 at the break.

The second half got off to a better start for Paddock thanks to a goal from Lauren Burke, but Killadooley hit straight back with a goal from Emma Dunphy. Eve Cuddy made another great save for Paddock and soon after, Lauren Burke struck for another goal.

Aoife Treacy then added another goal before Lauren Burke’s point levelled the game at 3-2 each, but it didn’t stay that way for long as Burke and Treacy then added another another goal each. Jessica Quinlan hit back for Killadooley with a goal and point to get it back to just a two point deficit, but Paddock would finish with a flourish.

Two goals from frees by Lauren Burke in the last two minutes would finally break the resolve of Killadooley, as Paddock ran out winners in the end.
