An outstanding display from The Heath’s midfielder Erone Fitzpatrick was the major difference between the teams here, as she helped to fire The Heath to a big win over Our Lady’s Meadow PS from Durrow.
Fitzpatrick finished with a highly impressive tally of 6-4, as Durrow struggled to contain her influence on the game.
For Durrow, they must be complimented for the manner in which they kept battling right to the end, with Yeaneah O’Connell driving her team for ward from full-back time and again. On this occasion, however, they met a team who were really on form.
Fitzpatrick opened the scoring in the second minute with a point from the right wing, but Durrow hit right back when Yeaneah O’Connell slotted over a free.
The Heath took control after that, starting with a goal from Erone Fitzpatrick in the seventh minute, and she added two more points (one from a free) to open up a 2-3 to 0-1 lead.
Durrow wrre trying their hardest to get back into it, but with the pressure building they couldn’t hold The Heath out any longer. Erone Fitzpatrick was again on hand to fire home a cracking goal, and she then caught the resulting puckout and fired it back over the bar to put The Heath 2-4 to 0-1 ahead at half time.
The game was put beyond Durrow then at the start of the second half, as Elaine Daly’s excellent work throughout the game was finally rewarded when she found the back of the net in the second minute, and Erone Fitzpatrick added added another within a minute.
The Durrow girls were down but they refused to throw in the towel, and they battled superbly for the rest of the game, but their good work was not rewarded with scores.
Erone Fitzpatrick added three more goals before the final whistle, while on of The Heath’s subs, Laura Booth, also got in on the act to round off the win.
