There are four candidates in the running to succeed Pat Roe as Laois U-21 football manager, after all four names were revealed at Monday night’s county board meeting.

There are four candidates in the running to succeed Pat Roe as Laois U-21 football manager, after all four names were revealed at Monday night’s county board meeting.

Mick Lawlor (Emo), Tony ‘Barney’ Maher (Stradbally), Oliver Phelan (Ballyfin) and David Brennan (St Joseph’s) have all been nominated by their clubs for the position, and the interview process will being in the near future.

Whoever gets the job will have a big task on his hands in restoring team morale after a chastening defeat at the hands of Dublin earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Justin McNulty’s appointment for another year was rubberstamped at the meeting, with John Mulligan and Fergal Byron acting as selectors. There was also a call for a third Laois selector to be appointed, and Brian Allen said they would discuss the possibility with Justin McNulty later this week, as he is currently in America.

George Doyle was also ratified for another year as manager of the Laois minor football team, with Lawrence Phelan also returning as a selector. Nominations are still open for club’s to put names forward for a second selector to join the management team.
